First Listen: Sade breaks eight year silence with new song

(March 6, 2018) It has been eight years since we heard new music from Sade via her Soldier of Love album, and now she is back! If we had guessed when we would next hear from the beautiful and talented Helen Folasade Adu, it would have not been as part of a movie adaptation of a childrens book, but that’s what it is.

There has been a lot of advance buzz about the upcoming movie adaptation of the Madeline L’Engle 1962 classic book A Wrinkle In Time. But the anticipation grew dramatically when the movie’s director, Ava DuVernay, tweeted news that made music fans dance for joy. “I never thought she’d say yes, but asked anyway. She was kind + giving. A goddess. We began a journey together that I’ll never forget. Proud to announce that Sade has created an original song for WRINKLE IN TIME. It’s entitled ‘Flower of the Universe.’ And it’s a dream come true.”

From the first note of “Flower of the Universe,” there is no question whose music this is. Opening with sweet harmonies and timpani drum, the song then develops more fully with acoustic guitar and that most familiar of musical voices. The piece is more ethereal that most of Sade’s work, but should absolutely please her fans.
