(Sept. 4, 2015) We are sad to report to SoulTrackers the death of contemporary soul singer Morris Alan. Morris had been diagnosed with Lymphoma, a deadly form of cancer, earlier in the year. His friends has rallied around him and several benefit concerts were organized, including one in Phoenix as recently as August 5.
The Pennsylvania native and Arizona-based singer had been influenced by Marvin Gaye and Luther Vandross, and became a noted songwriter and singer, having collaborated with such notable songwriters as Paris Toon, Tha Stuntman, and Bubby Webb on a number of underground hits. He had also recorded with SoulTracks favorite Teri Tobin.
In 2012, Alan released his own album, The Love Sessions, which was a disc that nicely melded 90s-style R&B with modern production techniques and solid songwriting.
At around 2:30 pm EDT today, Morris’s Facebook Page posted the following note:
Our voice, our brother our friend, Morris Alan, has fought the good fight….today he decided to sing in another choir and passed on to be with his Heavenly Father. We all know that to be absent from the body is to be present with the Lord, and at 9:08 am this morning he moved from labor to reward surrounded by his close friends and family. His family and team will be communicating shortly regarding a celebration of his life and where to send condolences. Thank you all for your prayers and well wishes.
~ From Team Morris Alan
It’s always sad when a talented artist dies, but it is even sadder when it happens to someone so young. SoulTrackers’ prayers go out to Morris’s family.
