Soul and Blues legend Lou Wilson dies at 87

(April 16, 2021) He is an icon to deep soul fans, and he kept working right to the end. We are sad to report today death of the great Lou Wilson at age 87. The Mississippi native made a name for himself after he moved to Battle Creek, Michigan as a teenager, plugging into the region’s rich soul and blues scene.

Wilson hit the top 20 in 1958 with his group Wade Flemons and the Newcomers on “Here I Stand.” He later made a mark as a solo performer on “Got To Be Me” and “This Love is Getting Deeper.” And then, after years out of the spotlight, Wilson made a comeback as Lou Wilson and Today’s People, issuing a string of blues albums on his own Allo Records that won for him a new, bigger audience with hit albums like On The Right Track and Primetime Blues.

Just last year, Lou teamed with legendary producer Dr. Marlin McNichols (who recently worked on the fantastic comeback album by The Undisputed Truth) on the new album The Legendary Blues Man Lou Wilson and Today People Blues Experience, a collection that showed the intrepid Mr. Wilson sounding just fantastic. We then featured the fun song, “Put It On The Internet.”

Tonight we say a sad goodbye to Lou, and remember him for winning over fans around the world again and again over more than a half century.
