NEW YORK, March 14, 2011 – Daryl Hall takes the 40th and latest webisode of Live From Daryl’s House to Kauai, Hawaii, where he and old Philly pal Todd Rundgren join together live from Todd’s house for a rousing seven-song set that includes Daryl Hall and John Oates’ "Beanie G and the Rose Tattoo" and a cover of the Delfonics’ 1970 hit, "Didn’t I Blow Your Mind This Time." The newest installment of the Webby award-winning Internet series, which recently made its broadcast debut on WGN in Chicago to impressive ratings, will debut at https://www.lfdh.com/ on March 15.
Hall and Rundgren have known each other since the ‘60s, when they were both fledgling musicians inPhiladelphia, with a love of R&B, soul and doo-wop groups, reflected in their earliest music. The two previously paired up in a previous Live from Daryl’s House and now Todd returns the favor, with some down-home hospitality that includes an old-fashioned Luau Show, burying a pig in the dirt, serving up some amazing poi, with fire, hula dancers and a special performance with local musicians of "Bang on the Drum."
"It’s always great when friends come all the way out here to visit," laughed Todd. "It’s even better when they come to play. Thanks, Daryl!"
"What a blast to get together with Todd on his own turf," added Daryl. "Whether we’re in Philadelphia, New York or Hawaii, the camaraderie and food are always good, and the music even better."
Daryl and Todd collaborated on a seven-song set that included "Beanie G and the Rose Tattoo," from theWar Babies album, along with Hall’s "Everytime You Go Away," originally on Voices. There are also performances of Rundgren’s "Last Ride," "I Saw the Light" and "Wouldn’t Have Made Any Difference." The set climaxes with a raucous "Bang on the Drum" that includes a troupe of Kauai percussionists who do just that.
The past 18 months have marked a steady stream of superlatives and recognition for Live from Daryl’s House, with Hall receiving a Webby Award for Best Variety series from more than 10,000 entries at the 14thannual ceremony last summer at N.Y.’s Cipriani Wall Street.
The 39 previous episodes of Live From Daryl’s House have featured a mix of well-known performers like Rob Thomas, Train’s Pat Monahan, Jose Feliciano, Smokey Robinson, The Doors’ Robby Krieger and Ray Manzarek, Toots Hibbert, Nick Lowe, K.T. Tunstall, Todd Rundgren, Travie McCoy and Patrick Stump along with newcomers such Eric Hutchinson, Cash Money rocker Kevin Rudolf, Matt Nathanson, Parachute, Plain White T’s, Eli "Paperboy" Reed, soul diva Sharon Jones, Diane Birch, Fitz & the Tantrums, hot new alternative band Neon Trees and veteran alternative mainstays Guster.
Daryl launched the free monthly webcast in November 2007 after having the light-bulb idea of "playing with my friends and putting it up on the Internet," and the show has since garnered acclaim from Rolling Stone,SPIN, Daily Variety, CNN, BBC, Yahoo! Music and influential blogger Bob Lefsetz, who have cited Live From Daryl’s House as a perfect example of a veteran artist reinventing himself in the digital age by collaborating with both established and newer performers. The show marked its broadcast debut New Year’s Eve on superstation WGN American in Chicago, where its improved ratings for the time period almost 75%.
