(April 1, 2023) He is the pride of Detroit and one of the most important artists soul music artists of the past two decades. And now, to commemorate the 20th anniversary of his historic signing with the Motown label, KEM is providing fans with a triple celebration.
The first gift is the April 4 issuance of KEM’s memoir, Share My Life: A Journey of Love, Faith, and Redemption, published by Simon and Schuster and written with acclaimed author, David Ritz. It tells the inspiring story of KEM’s journey from childhood to homelessness to internationally renowned singer/songwriter.
The second treat is KEM’s first concert album, Anniversary – The Live Album, coming on Motown on April 7. The project was recorded last Fall at The Aretha Franklin Amphitheatre in Detroit, and features powerful renditions of some of KEM’s most treasured songs, including “Love Calls,” “I Can’t Stop Loving You,” “Why Would You Stay,” “Nobody,” “Lie To Me” and “Stuck On You.”
Kem says, “Celebrating the 20th Anniversary of my signing to the Motown label is exceptionally significant for me. As a young man creating music, only in my wildest dreams could I envision a life that could encapsulate the magnitude of a moment like this. My heart is filled with gratitude to my Motown family for having faith in my debut album, KEMISTRY, and continuing to support my musical journey of love. Having the last two decades of my career culminate in a live album recorded in Detroit, in the city and with the people who first heard “Love Calls” and helped put me on the map, is epic.”
Finally, KEM will resume his national tour with Ledisi and Musiq Soulchild on April 7, and continuing through mid-May. See the concert dates below.
This is a welcome recognition of an artist who has meant so much to fans, first as an independent singer selling CDs out of his car, and later as one of the most important performers on Detroit’s most iconic music label. We can’t wait for this entire KEM-fest to begin next week.
