(March 28, 2024) We are sad to report the passing of Joe Blunt, a former member of the legendary vocal group The Drifters. He was 74.
Blunt was a longtime member of the DC soul music community, having started his career on Cap City Records as part of The Chancelors and then True Reflection (with future Temptations member Glenn Leonard), which issued the album Where I’m Coming From on Atlantic Records in the early 70s and toured with many of the top R&B acts of the early 70s.
Blunt became part of a Hall of Fame group in 1975, when he joined The Drifters, where he worked with a somewhat fluid group of members that included the great Ben E. King. He remained in the group for a decade, recording several albums and touring the world.
Blunt left The Drifters in 1985 to pursue a solo career and traveled many roads, including recording and touring with old friends Glenn Leonard and Joe Coleman as Leonard, Coleman and Blunt. In 2017, we featured the trio’s song “My Time To Shine”
Joe Blunt was a talented singer who, both in groups and as a solo performer, brought joy to a lot of fans all over the world.
