(May 17, 2021) Billboard Magazine today announced that iconic hitmakers Jimmy Jam & Terry Lewis will be performing the 1991 hit “Optimistic” with Sounds of Blackness and former SOB lead singer Ann Nesby at this year’s Billboard Music Awards.
Just as exciting, the performance will be done remotely from Prince’s Paisley Park in Minneapolis. Jam & Lewis produced the original version of the song, giving Sounds of Blackness their first major smash, with Ann Nesby’s lead vocals on the song wowing audiences around the world.
The Billboard Music Awards will be held on May 23 at 8 p.m. ET/5 p.m. PT on NBC.
