(September 23, 2024) Jack Page is a multi-talented artist, writer, and producer from New Zealand, now based in South London. He first gained recognition with his 2021 debut, The Days, Pt. I & II, which has since racked up millions of streams. This was followed by Slow Movements, released through LA indie label B3SCI in 2022. His most recent album, Run Into the Night (2023), marked his first release while living in the UK and drew support from major platforms like BBC and Apple Music. With this record, Jack’s distinctive sound—an intoxicating blend of soul, jazz, and modern pop—was truly solidified, earning him a devoted global following and over 100,000 monthly listeners on Spotify.
Fresh from his Run Into the Night tour across Canada, Australia, New Zealand, and the UK, Jack was named a 2024 Pirate Resident through Pirate Studios‘ annual talent discovery programme, which receives thousands of entries each year. This accolade secured him a highly sought-after spot on the Pirate Studios stage at The Great Escape, one of the UK’s most prestigious festivals, where he made a memorable debut in Brighton on the iconic beach.
Now back in London and back in the recording studio, Jack is putting the finishing touches on an exciting new collaborative project with Toronto-based artist Kubla. The pair first met two years ago in London, where they instantly clicked, sparking a creative partnership that is about to result in something very tangible.
“We met in London almost two years ago and have written and produced several tracks we’re really proud of,” Jack shared when speaking about his collaboration with Kubla. Recently, they showcased some of their new material at a live performance at Servant Jazz Quarters (SJQ) in East London. “We had a fantastic show at SJQ a couple of weeks ago and wrapped up a big chunk of post-production before Kubla headed back to Canada,” Jack added. Their much-anticipated joint record is expected to be released before the end of the year.
Both Jack and Kubla have been honing their craft as solo artists for several years. Kubla, the alter ego of Toronto-based Kiaran McMillan, has been writing, performing, and producing music since his teenage years. After relocating to Toronto from his hometown of Victoria, BC, in 2019, Kubla released his debut EP, Goldenboy, in 2020, followed by a string of singles, and then his debut album, Close to the Sun, in 2023. His dynamic live shows—whether solo with a looper or supported by a full band—have earned him a dedicated following that continues to grow internationally.
Listening to Jack Page and Kubla’s solo work, it’s easy to see how their collaboration came together. Their music is woven from a similar tapestry of influences. Jack counts legends like Stevie Wonder, Al Green, and D’Angelo among his inspirations, while Kubla cites the likes of D’Angelo, Roy Hargrove, Tom Misch, Mac DeMarco, and John Mayer to describe his current sound. If you’re a fan of any of these phenomenal songwriters, Jack Page and Kubla are definitely worth a listen—and their collaborative record is doubly so.
