(February 6, 2018) Even as soul music fans are reeling from the death of beloved former Temptations lead singer Dennis Edwards, a story in today’s St. Louis Post-Dispatch provides a disturbing report on the last month of Edwards’ life.
According to the story, a protective order had been filed in court on January 12 by the Healthcare Consortium of Illinois, claiming that Edwards’ wife, Brenda Edwards, had attempted to suffocate the bedridden star, and had otherwise abused him. Mrs. Edwards disputes the charges. An emergency protective order was granted against Mrs. Edwards on Jan. 18, effectively barring her from contact with him. A court hearing for her respond was cancelled due to the death of Mr. Edwards.
This is a particularly troubling account of the last days of the life of the legendary star. Whether it will be ever be resolved is unclear, though the Chicago Police have begun a criminal investigation.
