Stevie Wonder surprises with four new “Songs in the Key of Life” cuts for 50th anniversary

(September 28, 2026) Now here is a pleasant surprise! Fifty years ago today, Stevie Wonder released one of the most celebrated albums in popular music history, Songs in the Key of Life. And now Wonder is marking that golden anniversary with a surprise gift for fans: four previously unreleased recordings from the legendary album’s original sessions.

The new Songs in the Key of Life EP includes “It’s Easier,” “My Life Story of Love,” “I Can See the Sun in Late December” and “I’m Into Livin’,” all written and produced by Wonder (with former Supreme Susaye Greene sharing writing credit on “My Life Story of Love”). The recordings were recently mixed by original Songs in the Key of Life engineers John Fischbach and Gary O. Adante (Gary Ozazabal).

And there are some familiar voices in the mix: soul stars Thelma Houston and Deniece Williams can be heard among the background singers on the funky “I’m Into Livin’.”

“We’ve lived with Songs in the Key of Life for fifty years, but there’s still more to hear,” Wonder said in announcing the release, noting that the songs were part of what he was “feeling and discovering” while making the landmark album.

The EP arrives as Wonder also prepares for a 50th anniversary tour on which he will perform substantially all of Songs in the Key of Life. For longtime Stevie fans, hearing four “new” songs from perhaps the greatest creative period of his career makes this anniversary celebration particularly special.
