(November 8, 2025) It has arrived and we are all feeling it. There is an onslaught of music being released that is generated by artificial intelligence. Reportedly more than a quarter of new songs on streaming services are A.I. generated, creating both a threat to human artists and a challenge to websites like SoulTracks that wade through thousands of artist submissions each year to bring the best new music to our readers.
Many of you read our recent article about our experience with a deceptive submission that we received, disguising an A.I. generated song as being by a real artist. It has prompted us to accelerate something we needed to do, and that is establish our own Policy on A.I.-generated Music and Artists, and what we will cover on SoulTracks.
We don’t pretend to have all of the answers on this, and it is difficult for us to see around every future corner regarding how A.I. will impact music. But we do want to give current guidance to artists and our readers about where we stand.
At SoulTracks, our mission has always been to celebrate authentic soul music and human creativity. We believe that soul music—like all true art—comes from lived experience, emotional truth, and human connection, and we want to consistently honor those artists who share that truth with us.
So, to preserve the integrity and spirit of the genre, we are establishing the following policy regarding artificial intelligence (AI)–generated content:
1. Human Creation Requirement
SoulTracks will not publish, promote, or otherwise feature artists, recordings, or musical works that were created entirely through the use of generative artificial intelligence technologies.
2. Limited Use of AI Tools
We recognize that AI-assisted tools may sometimes be used in the creative process (for example, for mixing, mastering, or minor enhancements). However, to be eligible for inclusion on SoulTracks, the substantial majority of the composition, performance, and production must be the work of human creators. And as a vocal music website, we require that all lead vocals be performed directly by humans.
3. Disclosure and Verification
Artists and representatives submitting music or profiles to SoulTracks must disclose any significant use of AI in the creation of their works. Failure to do so may result in removal of related content from our site and disqualification to submit to us in the future.
