One of the treats of being part of SoulTracks is that we hear so much great music from talented new artists, many of whom are still working on their first CD or have only quietly released their debut. There is so much talent out there and only a limited amount of space to write about them.
So this month we’ve created "Soul Breakout," a fun new contest that will spotlight 16 new singers and will allow SoulTrackers to vote in head-to-head competitions and ultimately pick our "Soul Breakout Artist."
Here are the rules: In order to be eligible to participate, an artist has to have either (a) never released a full CD or (b) released his/her/their debut CD since January 1, 2007 – so Alicia Keys isn’t eligible ;). Each artist submitted one song to us and we chose the top 16 to enter into the "Soul Breakout Artist" competition.
We’ll post up a new head-to-head matchup every couple days and will let SoulTrackers listen to the songs and choose the winner of that day’s match. The winner will go on to the next round — kind of like NCAA basketball tournament — and in the course of a month you will have picked our "Soul Breakout Artist" winner.
