What more can we say about the great Maysa Leak? She is the most awarded woman ever in the SoulTracks Readers’ Choice Awards, and she has established two incredible careers, first as part of the collective Incognito and later as a solo artist.
A couple years ago, Maysa took a leap of faith and created her own Blue Velvet Soul Records, and she has been issuing one sumptuous single after another ever since. Now, as she prepares her May 1 Blue Velvet Soul debut album, Music For Your Soul, she is about to issue a two-sided single that displays two different aspects of her musical talent.
“Just Stay” is an R&B number written by longtime collaborator Chris “Big Dog” Davis that should find a welcoming home on Adult Soul radio. But don’t sleep on the flip side because it is giving us chills: “Make Sure You’re Sure” was written by Stevie Wonder for the Jungle Fever soundtrack album, and Maysa turns it into jazzy, soulful nighttime ballad extraordinaire. It is a stunning performance, and a reminder of what a unique artist we’ve been able to observe over the past three decades.
So, check out the two-sided single below, our special Song of the Month for February, and get ready with us for Music For Your Soul.
