We first brought talented singer Kenya to the attention of SoulTrackers a couple years ago, and it was an instant love affair that resulted in her debut album My Own Skin staying on our album charts for three months.
This Fall, Expansion Records will be releasing Skin Deep: The Collection, a cool compilationof remixes and reworks of selected songs from My Own Skin, with a host of the world’s top remix/deep soulful house/acid jazz producers on board, including Sean McCabe, Mark de Clive Lowe, Tom Glide, Opolopo, Khari Cabral Simmons, Daz I Kue and Julius Speed.
We can’t wait to hear the full collection. To get ready, we gave SoulTrackers a sneak peek a few weeks ago with our premiere of the first single, the Edgewood Agents Rework of “Never Giving Up.” Kenya tells us: “The song lyrically is one of my favorite songs because it explores moments when we feel like giving up is the best option, but with love of self and a divine power, there’s never a need to give up. One of my favorite lyrics is, ‘even when rejection wins, love is never giving up.’ Bingo! Love always wins…”
