In the years 2015-2019, SoulTrackers got to know Texas-based singer and songwriter K.Avett. At the time, we called her music a “cool amalgamation of sounds; tough to define, but easy to enjoy. While she shows elements of her Gospel upbringing in her music, she adds a heavy dose of both soul and jazz.”
She became a multiple-nominated artist in the SoulTracks Readers’ Choice Awards, and her star was on the ascent. And then COVID came. The pandemic hit us all hard, but especially Avett, who is a nurse, and, like others in the medical field, heroically dedicated her entire self for the next few years to saving lives, as we documented in our 2020 story.
All things in life have their seasons, and the season again has arrived for Avett to focus on her music. And with her friend Jeremy Cannon she has channeled her reflections on the past few years, to create “a deeply personal reflection of my journey toward finding solace in the midst of turmoil.”
The result is the new single “Peace For Me,” a powerful midtempo number Avett co-produced with Madukwu Chinwah that displays a compelling musical vision while also successfully telling a story about reclaiming the power to protect your peace. It the first of several singles we will be expecting from K.Avett in 2025, and it gets very excited to hear the rest.
Check out the new video for “Peace for Me” below and welcome the talented K.Avett back to SoulTracks. “Peace for Me” is our Song of the Month for February.
