Song of the Month: K.Avett asks you to “Be Gentle”

K.Avett, a Texas-based singer and songwriter, knows the healing power of music and medicine. As a registered nurse, she cares for her patients physically; and as an artist, she cares for her listeners musically, singing songs that are meant to reach the heart.

K.Avett’s latest single “Be Gentle” fits into that category. Inspired by her work in the medical field, the song reflects the quiet weight of caregiving. Bearing that weight can be emotionally draining – whether caring for a group of patients or one relative – because caregivers give so much to others that they often neglect themselves in the process. With that in mind, K.Avett poses this question in “Be Gentle”:

“May I have a moment just to love myself?
Take for me the care I give to someone else”

Caregivers shouldn’t have to ask permission to take time for themselves, but it’s all too easy for them or their significant others to forget that they need care too. So “Be Gentle” is a gentle reminder to a caregiver’s closest companion that he or she needs time and space to recharge. It’s only right. K.Avett’s honest delivery in this soothing track emphasizes her belief that “grace is something we’re allowed to give ourselves.”

“Be Gentle” is our March Song of the Month. Listen to it below and allow yourself to breathe.
