Amos Lee made a lot of fans with his first album, which appealed to many of the same folks who liked his friend Norah Jones' two solo albums. And like Jones, Lee continues to defy easy categorization, mixing elements of pop, folk and a touch of soul into his acoustic style of music. Supply and Demand continues Lee's development as a songwriter, and the collection is generally stronger than its predecessor. Especially pleasing are the first single, "Shout Out Loud," Lee's best composition ever, as well as the socially conscious midtempo "Freedom" and the beautiful ballad "Skipping Stone." Supply and Demand should find an audience among adults looking for melodic light rock that is thoughtful without being cynical. It's enjoyable from front to back and a good sign that Lee could become one of the important adult contemporary artists of his generation.
