Stephanie McKay (2006)

Stephanie McKay is quickly becoming a name to follow in the underground scene, aside from her work with such notables like Talib Kweli, Roy Hargrove and Mos Def.   Her popularity on sites like Myspace and Giant Step continues to grow, as do her appearances in various venues.

Stephanie's self-titled EP contains a mixture of soulfully funky tracks that leave you curious about the soon-to-come full length project.  Opening and closing with "Tell It Like It Is," which paints the picture of today's urban climate, often filled with violent acts.  The first cut is the funk-infused version of "Tell It Like It Is" and puts you in a retro zone, where psychedelic colors and lava lamps ruled!  Dancers will love the remix of this song, the final track on the EP which was blessed by DJ Spinna  — a definite club banger.

It's evident through her lyrics that Stephanie is socially conscious, bringing her heart filled with passion to the table when feeling creative.  This EP showcases a range of sounds, spanning reggae to house, and so much more in between.  This well-rounded musician is clearly about to plant her feet firmly and stand fast!
