Not White Enuff is a mostly solid display of Miner's versatile vocal and songwriting skills. With a voice that falls somewhere between Freddy Jackson and Johnny Gill, Miner works his way through a fairly varied collection of fifteen songs. The disc alternatingly runs between soulful Gospel a la Smokie Norful and funky electric numbers. While the latter aren't compelling (and actually have a rather dated, late 80s sound), the former are very good. The midtempo "All 4 U" is an excellent, laid back cut and the danceable "Somehow It's You" and the Southern Gospel-influenced "Great Change" are top notch. Perhaps even more gripping are the album's ballads "Strong Tower," "Stay Right Here," "So Much More" and the touching tribute to Miner's grandfather, "Friend Indeed." There's also a hidden gem at the end of the album, as Miner follows the mediocre uptempo cut "I Wanna Know" with a beautiful acoustic cover of the oft-recorded "Lord I Lift Your Name On High." It is the perfect ending to the disc and shows Miner at his best — using his smooth, soulful voice to bring new life to a classic song.
