Detroit-based singer/guitarist Nadir and his band Distorted Soul have won great critical praise over the past year with their debut album, which is newly released as Distorted Soul 2.0. The praise is well deserved, as this is absolutely infectious urban rock, calling to mind the better moments of artists from Ernie Isley to Lenny Kravitz. The band is top notch and Nadir’s growling vocals are strong throughout. Lyrically the disc is somewhat uneven, with the disc at its best on the more political songs. The music, however, is stunning – there are at least a half dozen potential hits. The major labels should be all over this album, as should fans of gutsy R&B and rock. Recommended.
