Memories of the Heart (2006)

Singer Peter Hadar has gained a reputation in the Soul Music world as an emerging songwriter, but he convincingly displays his talent as a performer on his debut album, Memories of the Heart.  Possessing a voice that falls somewhere between BeBe Winans and Jaheim, Hadar deftly covers an attractive collection of cuts on the album, all fitting in his "cool weirdo" style of unusual beats, sneaky hooks and a consistent groove.

Hadar has written several songs with Eric Roberson, and Erro’s sizeable following will find a lot to like on Memories of the Heart, especially the mid-tempo cuts "Never Again" and "Please!"  But several other tracks, such dance cut "First Sight," and the ethereal "Xplosive," are just as pleasing.  And indie soul fans will likely recognize the excellent "Need Love," the album’s most infectious cut and a popular track from last year’s popular H2O While You Wait compilation.  Peter Hadar has already earned creds as a songwriter among the singers and musicians who are leading the new soul movement; now Memories of the Heart should serve as a fine introduction of his sizeable talent as a singer to that genre’s growing fanbase.  Recommended.
