R.I.P. BET and DC radio legend and singer Angela Stribling

(September 27, 2026) We are sad to report the passing of longtime broadcaster and jazz vocalist Angela Stribling, a familiar voice and face to music fans for several decades. Veteran journalist and former BET colleague Ed Gordon announced Stribling’s passing on social media, paying tribute to his longtime friend and colleague: It’s been a very difficult year for the BET family, we’ve lost a number of people and it’s gotten even more devastating. So very sad to hear Angela Stribling has passed away. We worked together and became friends during our years at the network and remained friends once we both moved on to other opportunities. Her years at BET saw her host a number of shows and her sultry voice made her a staple on radio in the DC area and on Sirius.

Stribling became a fixture in Washington, D.C. radio through her work at WHUR, including hosting Pillow Talk with Angela and serving as part of the station’s celebrated Quiet Storm tradition. Her television career was just as notable. She was an on-air personality at BET, hosting Screen Scene and later helping launch BET Jazz, where she hosted Jazz Central alongside Ramsey Lewis and Lou Rawls, as well as BET Jazz Discovery and BET Jazz Scene.

But Stribling was more than a broadcaster. A classically trained vocalist with a lifelong love of jazz, she performed internationally and shared stages with artists including Stevie Wonder and Chaka Khan. She also issued several recordings of her own performances.

With her unmistakably warm voice and elegant presence, Angela Stribling spent a career connecting listeners with the music she loved. She will be missed by radio, television and jazz fans.
