NEW YORK — After 56 years, 20 releases, and countless awards and accolades, legendary artist Roberta Flack, best known for such iconic songs as “Killing Me Softly” and “The First Time Ever I Saw Your Face,” continues to be a vibrant creative force at the age of 87.
2024 marks the release of two special projects for Flack: The first is the new hi-res release of Killing Me Softly, her 1973 GRAMMY Awards-nominated Atlantic Records album featuring the title famed track, “Killing Me Softly,” which won GRAMMY Awards for Record of the Year and Song of the Year in 1974. The album will be available for the first time in nearly 50 years in a new format to give fans an enhanced way to experience this classic collection of songs.
Killing Me Softly has been transferred from the original half inch four-channel masters onto Blu-Ray with 192/24 resolution in quadraphonic sound, or 4.0 surround sound, with hi-res stereo mixes. Quadraphonic sound utilizes four audio channels connected to four speakers positioned at the corners of a listening space. The multi-tracked audio is mixed dimensional, immersing the listener in an expansive soundscape.
Fun Fact: Flack was the first artist to win the GRAMMY Award for Record of the Year in two consecutive years. She first won in 1973 for “The First Time Ever I Saw Your Face,” followed by the 1974 win for “Killing Me Softly.”
Killing Me Softly (Quadio, Blu-Ray Audio) is available at Rhino.com, or you can ask for it at your favorite local music retailer.
