(November 30, 2024) He’s a SoulTracks Readers’ Choice Award winner and one of the longtime leaders in the independent soul music movement. And Frank McComb has a new album coming that will have his fans excited.
Frank tells us, “Straight From The Vault Live At The Keystone Korner is a celebration of the original recording of my third album, but the first recorded completely on my own. The award winning Straight From The Vault (the first Reader’s Choice Award winner for “Best Album of the Year” with SoulTracks) turned 20 this year (2024), so I performed and recorded most of the songs from that album only.
“It’s also a celebration of The Keystone Korner turning 52, and The Keystone Korner’s founder and owner, Todd Barkan turning 78. The bonus track, ‘Bright Moments,’ was written in 1972 by Todd Barkan and the late saxophonist Rahsaan Roland Kirk as the theme song for The Keystone Korner. Though Todd’s a great pianist and not a vocalist, it was my absolute honor to pay homage to my elder, who allowed me to record this album and collaborate on our celebrations, by giving his stage back to him during my live recording to sing the Keystone Korner theme song in recognition of this great venue who’s stage has been the platform for many live albums recorded by many jazz greats. I’m grateful to now be one of them!”
