(February 23, 2026 – LOS ANGELES) Donny Hathaway and Roberta Flack gave us the definition of timeless and their records remind us of what love is supposed to sound like. On the just-released EP, Love From Roberta and Donny, their powerful performances of six newly-remastered tracks celebrate their vocals, songwriting, and the way they made every note feel like truth.
The collection includes No. 1 hits “Feel Like Makin’ Love” (Flack’s recording earned her three GRAMMY Award nominations for the single) and “The Closer I Get to You.” The latter was performed by Lalah Hathaway (Donny’s daughter) and October London during a recent, powerful GRAMMY In Memoriam tribute. USA Today ranked the performance as their No. 1 pick of the Awards ceremony, saying it was “…a stirring ensemble performance dedicated to Roberta Flack and led by Ms. Lauryn Hill. Wrapping the audience around her finger… Hill laid bare the raw emotion that infused magic into Flack’s lyricism. The moment melted from somber to elated as Flack’s clear and present influence on the room came into view.”
Two tracks from the duo’s first album together, Roberta Flack & Donny Hathaway, follow. “I (Who Have Nothing)” was the lead track from the album and recently had a resurgence being prominently featured in the second episode of Netflix’s No. 1 Limited Series, His & Hers. Written by Roberta Flack, Donny Hathaway, and Charles Mann,“Be Real Black for Me” finds the duo “in complete harmonic energy” (New York Times podcast – Cannonball with Wesley Morris) as “it radiates warmth and loving, Afrocentric pride” (Rolling Stone).
From their second double-billed album, Roberta Flack Featuring Donny Hathaway, comes a cover of the Stevie Wonder penned-song, “You Are My Heaven.” Co-writer and producer of the song, Eric Mercury, has noted that the track became Hathaway’s final recording before his tragic death. The joyous and upbeat duet has become an uplifting memorial to the soul music legend.
Love From Roberta and Donny closes with Hathaway’s recording of “I Love You More than You’ll Ever Know.” His impassioned performance propelled the single onto the pop and R&B charts. The song is currently featured in Twisted Melodies, an immersive one-man play which tells a story about Hathaway’s life and music.
Flack’s and Hathaway’s collaborations elevated the progression of soul, R&B, and pop music, and have become influential to artists of all genres. Ann Powers wrote on NPR, “(Flack’s) exquisite collaborations with Donny Hathaway play upon this idea of love as an art steeped in emotional refinement; the two musicians, who’d met at Howard University, were both classically trained, and achieved a mutual responsiveness when working together that cast desire as an exquisite exchange and romance as an elevating experience.” And AllMusic notes, “The combination of Donny Hathaway and Roberta Flack undeniably ranks atop the all-time great duet parings in the history of R&B. “
