New book “A Night At The Disco” captures a magic era of music

(March 16, 2026) The Golden Age of Dance Music will be celebrated with the release of A Night at the Disco, a new book by music journalist Christian John Wikane and fashion industry dynamo Alice Harris that celebrates the groundbreaking music of 1970–1979. We’ve been friends with Christian since the early days of SoulTracks, and you’ve seen several of his articles on our pages over the years.

The new book features photographs of artists who helped shape the sounds and styles of the disco era, along with excerpts from Christian’s interviews with more than 90 performers, songwriters and producers. Among those featured are icons such as Donna Summer, Barry Gibb, Debbie Harry, Giorgio Moroder, Valerie Simpson and Thom Bell, along with members of CHIC, Labelle, The Trammps and Earth, Wind & Fire.

From underground New York clubs to discothèques around the world, A Night at the Disco captures the musical movement that blended soul, funk, pop, jazz and rock into a cultural phenomenon that still influences popular music today. The book also includes a foreword by Verdine White.

A New York City–based music journalist and essayist, Christian John Wikane has interviewed hundreds of artists over the past two decades and is known for in-depth conversations exploring the stories behind great music.

Following the book’s March 24 release, Christian will launch a four-month international promotional tour beginning March 27 at Barbara’s Bookstore in Chicago, where he will interview disco icon Linda Clifford, who is featured in the book. Additional tour dates will be announced March 24 on Christian’s Instagram page.
