(March 11, 2026) UK soul powerhouse Mamas Gun return with their third single, ‘Joy’, following the release of the title track from their forthcoming sixth album ‘Dig!’ featuring the legendary Brian Jackson. The title track received widespread media acclaim, including BBC Radio 2’s DJ Spoony, who named it his New To Spoon track of the week, calling it “one of those pieces of music that’s absolutely going to stand the test of time.” It also received an A-List on Jazz FM, Delite Radio and was added to the Mi Soul playlist, while receiving BBC 6 Music support from Craig Charles and Cerys Matthews and Virgin Radio support from Huey Morgan, cementing the band’s rising profile in the UK soul scene.
Written by Andy Platts and Connor Reeves and recorded straight to 16 track analogue tape at All Things Analogue Studios in Leeds; ‘Joy’ channels the band’s signature blend of analogue soul textures and modern polish and delivers a message of optimism and positivity, a message we all certainly need right now. “JOY is an out and out celebration of love, of warmth and goodness, of wonder and positivity. In creating JOY we wanted to make something that reaches across the endless divides, across space and time, and shout loudly from the rooftops about the wonders of making a true connection and the soul-feeding hope which that joy and happiness brings” explains Andy.
Formed in London, the band have built an international following through relentless touring across Europe, Asia and the US, and through a catalogue that consistently bridges vintage soul craftsmanship with contemporary edge.
Mamas Guns band members include Andy Platts – the songwriting frontman with the golden falsetto; Drummer Chris Boot – the band’s backbone, supplying the heaviest grooves with a jazz player’s lightness of touch; Bass player Cameron Dawson, flowing and fearless echoing the spirit of James Jamerson but with a melodic sound uniquely his own; Terry Lewis, a guitarist whose taste, feel bring a warm old school validity, and last but by no means least; Dave Oliver, a dynamic keys player whose profound command of the piano, wurlitzer and hammond organ joins the dots from jazz to gospel to soul with ease.
‘Joy’ is an uplifting masterclass in timeless blue-eyed soul, with a fresh modern outlook, with its gospel-tinged flair all brought to life on this track by Andy Platts’ powerhouse tenor vocals. A song radiating hopefulness and positivity in times of despair.
