SoulTracks Lost Gem: Smokey Robinson made “Time Fly” beautifully

He may be a Hall of Famer and one of the greatest soul music artists of all time, but sometimes, just sometimes, even a legend like Smokey Robinson doesn’t’ get his due. And that was the case with his 2009 album Time Flies When You’re Having Fun.

Released years after his departure from Motown, Time Flies had a plethora of strong songs that harkened back to the warm, romantic sounds that pervaded such classic albums as A Quiet Storm and Warm Thoughts decades earlier.

Sadly, Time Flies never really took off, but we definitely were feeling it here. And that begin with the title track, a smooth, ethereal number that is near-perfect late night listening. “Time Flies” is still on repeat here at SoulTracks, and is just perfect to be our latest SoulTracks Lost Gem.
