Sharon Robinson is a singer/songwriter and producer who is best known for her work with the late Leonard Cohen, with whom she co-wrote several great songs and performed as a supporting vocalist. In 2008, after 30 years in the music industry, Robinson released her debut solo album, Everybody Knows, which included covers of songs originally recorded by Cohen as well as other of her compositions. Although we at SoulTracks heard and recommended the album at the time of release, it received little promotion, and the label which issued it filed for bankruptcy shortly thereafter. Fortunately, the curators at Spotify have recently been including the album on soul and R&B the playlists, resulting once again in a lost gem having been rediscovered!
We showcase here the title track from the album, a soft and sultry ballad featuring Robinson’s smokey and sublime alto. Enjoy.
