Lost Gem: Nancy Wilson and James Ingram were magic together

They were two legends who sadly left us in the past decade, but Nancy Wilson and James Ingram each left an indelible mark on popular music, touching elements, of pop, soul and jazz over their careers. And while they had great careers separately, not many folks remember about the time the came together in 1994 for a tasty duet.

Wilson was working with producer and songwriter extraordinaire Barry Eastmond on her album If I Had My Way, and Eastmond brought to her a beautiful ballad that would work better as a duet. And the perfect answer appeared to be Ingram, who had become the “go to” duet partner for everyone from Patti Austin to Linda Ronstadt.

Eastmond’s instincts were right, as the pairing of Ingram and Wilson was magical, delivering “Wish You Were Here,” a song that was quintessential 90s urban adult contemporary, and paced the album. While “Wish You Were Here” wasn’t a big hit, it remains a true gem that was a worthy addition to Quiet Storm playlists everywhere. It is our newest SoulTracks Lost Gem. Check it out below.
