To many people he will always be known as Theo from the iconic television show The Cosby Show, but the late, great Malcolm-Jamal Warner fashioned for himself a second career that incorporated both acting and music, with four albums under his belt as the guitarist and founder of the group Miles Long. He once said, “It’s funny, people aren’t so much surprised that I have a band as much as they are that we’re good.”
SoulTracks first wrote about his debut album in the 00s, and while some of his subsequent music went under the radar for listeners, it is nonetheless worth finding. That includes his 2015 album Selfless, which included collaborations with some musical giants, including Robert Glasper, Stokley and Rahsaan Patterson. And one of the songs from that album particularly caught our fancy: the great Lalah Hathaway came along for a jazzy midtempo about that special feeling you have going up your spine when new love comes along.
