(April 12, 2020) SoulTrackers know Eric Roberson as the King of Indie Soul, who for two decades has combined R&B and hip-hop into an amazingly consistent career filled with great songs and legendary live performances. But he is also a man of great faith in God and in other people, and those themes come through in his music.
For this Easter Sunday, we take a look back a few years to Eric’s Mr. Nice Guy album. Its closing number was one of his most beautiful compositions, and a gentle song of faith that has always resonated for me on this holiest of days.
“All For Me” is a story of recognition of the sacrifice made nearly 2000 years ago, and its continued meaning today. It is a beautiful call to faith and to a life consistent with that devotion. “How can I go on without your love, your love that paid the price? And what a sacrifice, that you laid down your life, you did it all.”
In a year where Easter and Passover arrive at a troubled and seemingly overwhelming time, maybe this simple song of belief is just what we need to hear.
