Lost Gem: The time that Al Green and Chicago teamed up on video

They are separately two Hall of Fame acts, but few remember the time that they performed to perfection together. The legendary band Chicago issued the 1973 television special Chicago In The Rockies during the group’s Imperial Period. And one of the band’s guests was no other than Memphis soul man Al Green, also at his commercial peak.

The two acts decided to collaborate on video on Green’s 1971 smash hit, “Tired of Being Alone,” and the result was magical. The original recording featured strong rhythm and horn sections, and Chicago (with its classic lineup of Terry Kath, Robert Lamm, Danny Seraphine, Walter Parazaider, Lee Loughnane, James Pankow and Peter Cetera all in tow) replicated those elements beautifully.

The video has generally been lost to history, but now lives again in YouTube-land. And it is a VERY worthy new entry to our SoulTracks Lost Gems collection. Check it out below.
