(February 17, 2026) American keyboardist, composer, producer, and arranger Jason Miles has spent over 50 years pioneering the global music industry, and over 5 of those years by Miles Davis’ side, helping him pivot a new jazz fusion sound on albums such as TuTu, Music from Siesta, and Amandla. Honoring what would be his colleague and friend’s 100th birthday, Jason now presents 100 Miles for Miles Davis on May 1, a collection of tracks inspired by his time spent alongside one of the most legendary musicians of our time.
The first of eight original compositions, title track “100 Miles,” features Randy Brecker with a masterful trumpet performance, as well as powerhouse Ada Rovatti on tenor sax. Jason’s Lisbon Electric 4tet backs these soloists up with a solid groove as Jason tips his hat to TuTu with an old-school orchestra hit. Followup track “The Girl With The Purple Hair” is a reference to Miles Davis’ love of Prince, and Jason’s memory of meeting him once at a birthday party in New York City. “Controlled Chaos,” in turn, references what Jason describes as ‘A true Miles moment’; TVs, radio, and a drum machine looping nonstop in his apartment. That memory turned into a futuristic, funky track. 100 Miles for Miles Davis masterfully glues together eight memories shared between Jason and Miles and turns them into the ultimate soundtrack to a musical friendship that changed the way jazz fusion was made and perceived around the world.
Released weeks before his friend would have celebrated his centennial, this album is a collection of stories and experiences between artists who enjoyed mutual influence and companionship, forming a package wrapped in a piece of art created by Jo Gelbard, Miles Davis’ last lover and life partner.
With one leg spiritually in those studio rooms where music history was made, embracing the influences of those he worked alongside, and one leg planted firmly into the future, 100 Miles for Miles Davis is Jason Miles pushing the envelope on where jazz would be if Miles Davis was still here to reinvent it alongside him.
