Soul music fans remember the string of hits in the 1980s from soul man Eugene Wilde. He topped the charts with memorable hits like “Don’t Say No Tonight,” “Gotta Get You Home Tonight” and “Diana.” But after years in the spotlight, he went silent from the scene. Even his solid 2009 album, Compositions, was pulled before it hit the streets.
So it was fortunate for music fans that, a year later, Eugene hooked up with one of Europe’s great production teams, the duo Cool Million. Rob and Frank were getting their second full album ready, and they had a knock-your-socks-off song that would turn out to be the album’s title track. And Eugene Wilde, sounding better than ever, was just the guy to bring it to life. “Back For More” became an underground hit around the world and Cool Million’s signature song.
There are a lot of thoughts about how long it takes a popular song to become a classic, but, for my money, this uber-infectious track is already there. Take a moment and enjoy again the return of Eugene Wilde on Cool Million’s brilliant “Back For More.” It is our SoulTracks Instant Classic.
