Flashback Soul: Lighthouse Family Gets So “High”

lighthouse-family

Sometimes you just need to be wrapped in the warm embrace of a track with a positive message.  Next time you do, try reaching for “High” by the UK’s Lighthouse Family

Lighthouse Family is a musical duo, consisting of vocalist Tunde Baiyewu and keyboardist Paul Tucker, who met in 1993 while at university in Newcastle upon Tyne. “High” was the second single off  their second  album, Postcards from Heaven, which in 1997 reached number 4 on UK Singles Chart, number 23 on the Billboard Hot Adult Contemporary Tracks chart, and a top 10 position in many other countries. They released a third album in 2001, after which they parted ways to pursue solo careers. They reformed in 2010 for a brief, and sold out, European tour and announced that they are at work on a new album, but nothing has been released to date.

Despite their international success, the band is virtually unknown here, which is a shame. Their music is like a familiar, cozy blanket of melodic new soul, featuring Tunde’s comforting voice and head nodding beats.  So come on, time to get “High,” SoulTrackers!
