If you’re a fan of 1980s era synthy, and seductive funk, then you will love what Zo!, Tall Black Guy and Sy Smith cooked up on their latest, “Keep Him Satisfied,” the banger featured in this First Listen. “Keep Him Satisfied” is a playful number where Sy Smith informs a woman who is attracted to her man that she’s wasting her time. Smth understands her would-be rival’s interest. However, Smth has done the work to put her man on lock.
A musical actress to her core, Smith knows how to use her voice to match the energy of the musical arrangement, as well as the song’s thematic message. She sings “Keep Him Satisfied” in a conversational style that has equal parts confidence and joy, spiced with a sarcastic edge. The tune happily embraces that funky, fun and dance party ethos of 80s era funk. We hear the syncopated hand claps and the loopy synthesizer effects that stand on the funky foundation provided by the bouncing bass line and percussion.
