(October 5, 2015) Regular SoulTrackers know that we think UK soul group Mama’s Gun is one of the best things going, so when we heard that group lead singer Andy Platts was doing a side project, teaming with longtime pop music songwriter and producer Shawn Lee to create the new duo, Young Gun Silver Fox, well we couldn’t wait.
Andy and Shawn are readying a full album working together, and their newly released first single, “You Can Feel It,” is everything we hoped it would be: a beautifully written and performed pop/soul gem. The song boasts the kind of bright, airy sound that would’ve fit on FM radio in the late 70s, with elements of America, Michael McDonald-era Doobie Brothers and maybe even a touch of Ambrosia.
It’s a song for a Saturday Indian Summer drive, or maybe just a sunny day at home. But it is exactly what I wanted to hear today. Check it out below.
