YaYa Diamond honors her mother’s legacy while also forging her own path as a soul and blues/rock singer. She comes through powerfully on her new single “Woman You Made,” which is featured in this First Listen.
“Woman You Made” tells the story of how a relationship can transform a person – sometimes for the better and sometimes for the worse. Diamond sings of entering the relationship with a spirit of love, but through the selfish actions of the man in the relationship, Diamond leaves damaged, but also strong enough to walk away and sever the ties completely.
Diamond says this about “The Woman You Made”: This song speaks about the relationship that didn’t work out changing the woman into someone unrecognizable. She entered the relationship with love and high hopes and emerged damaged. The boyfriend/husband changed her into the “Woman You Made” scenario.
Sonically and spiritually, the song has a classic soul feel. “The Woman You Made” fuses blues with gospel call and response from the backing vocalist.
