(July 23, 2026) “Let’s Go Out To Lunch,” the new song by Will Hammond, Jr., is about the lengths people will go to remain in the company of that special person. Who can refuse a meal, especially if you aren’t buying and your date’s desire to keep you close is as deep as their pockets?
The song is a throwback to a time when songwriters willingly dispensed with any reservations they had about being transparent, vulnerable, and innocent. They wanted to go on a date and they wanted that moment to last. The burgers and fries, chicken and macaroni simply served as an excuse.
The musical arrangement makes a heartfelt and sentimental nod to that more innocent time as well with the rhythmic hand claps, the smooth, upbeat bass line and the church inspired electric organ co-signing on the line “let’s go out to lunch.”
Hammond says this about the tune: “Sometimes the best memories happen over something as simple as burgers, fries, salad and a conversation that lasts longer than expected. I wanted to write a song that felt joyful, funny, romantic and a little over-the-top—like ordering everything on the menu just because you’re happy to be together.”
“Let’s Go Out ToLunch” is a new song that will be featured on Hammond’s re-release of the album To Be Continued, which dropped in 2006 and I reviewed on SoulTracks about a year later. Check it out here.
