(September 30, 2023) He is the most awarded artist in the history of the SoulTracks Readers’ Choice Awards, and more than three decades into his storied musical career, legendary singer and songwriter Will Downing is as productive and effective as ever.
Will has been regularly releasing new music on his Sophisticated Soul label, and this week he is back with yet another tasty single that should get his millions of fans cheering. “What Part of My Love” is a midtempo number with a bit of an acid jazz vibe to it, and an irresistible hook to boot. On the song, which was co-written with Hubert Eaves IV, Will reminds his love of all they’ve been through as a couple, and assures her that they’ll continue to ride the roller coaster of life together.
It is a blessing for a singer when he reaches that point in his career where he can get behind a microphone and know how to make the listener feel that he is comfortably sitting across the room, and on “What Part of My Love” Downing again shows his mastery of this vocal intimacy. It’s another welcome addition to Will’s enviable discography.
