First Listen: Whittington Still channels Phyllis Hyman vibe on “Missing You”

(April 22, 2021) New Jersey native, Florida-based singer and songwriter Whittington Still is still a young performer, but she has a keen sense of classic soul from the 70s and 80s. Her vocal style is perhaps most often compared to the late, great Phyllis Hyman, and that comparison seems apt on her single, the longing slow song, “Missing You.”

“Missing You” is a piano ballad with the relatable topic of the pain of being away from a special lover, and the emotions associated with wanting that person back, so strongly: “I miss everything about you / Your laugh, your smile, your grace.”

Whittington’s vocals are certainly front and center on this sparsely orchestrated number, and her exquisite phrasing and tone stand up beautifully.

We think SoulTrackers will like this one. Check out “Missing You” below and welcome our introduction to Whittington Still.
