(March 24, 2023) Last Summer, the legendary vocal group The Whispers announced that they were taking control their musical catalog by re-recording some of their biggest hits, similar to the process that pop star Taylor Swift famously went through a couple years ago. The re-recordings would allow the group to retain the rights to the recordings. As group member Wallace “Scotty” Scott said, “We want to reap some of the financial benefits that record companies have enjoyed at our expense for decades.”
The group began with “And The Beat Goes On (Whispers Version)” in September and followed with “Rock Steady” in December. And now The Whispers have continued with a new version of “Keep On Loving Me,” a 1983 hit written by Kevin Spencer, Wardell Potts, Jr. and William Zimmerman that landed in the Top 5.
The new version is faithful to the original, with the trio sounding solid and delivering a familiar groove. Coming soon will be new versions of “It’s A Love Thing” and “Olivia.” All will be produced by longtime Whispers collaborator, Magic Mendez (Unified Tribe).
