(July 15, 2020) It is perhaps the most iconic song of the 1970s, capturing a tumultuous time in America and thrusting its already famous singer, Marvin Gaye, into the stratosphere. “What’s Going On” still resonates nearly a half century after its release, as we struggle as a people with many of the same issues that Marvin addressed on the song and its accompanying album.
Now, nine independent soul artists have join forces to honor that once in a lifetime song with a new, passionate version. It began with a discussion between The Terri Green Project and Cornell “CC” Carter, and expanded to include Cool Million band member Rob Hardt, soul crooner Marc Staggers, noted vocalists Miracle Thomas and Michelle Lawson, singer songwriter David A. Tobin, legendary vocalist and guitarist Randy Hall, and disco queen Dynelle “Weather Girls” Rhodes, all coming together to take on this classic.
Rob Hardt creates a clean, groovalicious backdrop for the singers, with bass player Kirk “KC” Crumpler adding a strong bottom end to the affair.
This is a great new version of an all-time classic. We’re proud to present the World Premiere of this memorable group performance. Check out “What’s Going On” below and celebrate this tribute with us.
