Walter Williams of The O’Jays and Frank McComb “Learn How to Love”

(March 23, 2023) Throughout the decades, since the early 1990s with Motown and later Columbia (both solo and as part of Branford Marsalis’ band, Buckshot LeFonque) until finally going independent at the turn of the millennium, singer/songwriter/keyboardist Frank McComb hasn’t disappointed fans with his smooth R&B style.

The SoulTracks Readers’ Choice Awards winner now presents us with his new single, “Learn How To Love” and this time he brings along a fellow Cleveland Ohio native, O’Jays’ co-founder Walter Williams, along for the ride.

The ballad “Learn How To Love” carries on a theme found in some of the O’Jays’ classic tracks of trying to please a lover who, no matter what one does, just ain’t satisfied (“992 Arguments” comes to mind) and the advice being offered as a solution within the title. The vocals from both McComb and Williams blend in so well together — with the former handling some sweet falsetto work while Williams brings on his straight-no-chaser vocal work. I was almost expecting Eddie Levert to chime in! Maybe next time…(smile).

“Learn How To Love” is one of those good ol’ slow jams that fits perfectly for R&B radio, especially those late nights in between some classic soul. Looking forward to more from McComb – both solo and collaborations.
