(September 5, 2020) I can envision Wade C. Long’s “She” being a wedding ballad, when – you know – we can do things like have wedding ceremonies again. The song sounded familiar to me when I played it. I knew that I had heard “She” before and it turned out that I had. I reviewed Long’s Nostalgia earlier this year, and “She” was one of that project’s standout tracks.
It’s easy to see why. “She” is a classic soul ballad in every sense of the word. The lyrics express the feelings of a man who knows that he has found the one. She has so many qualities that he loves, and he can’t pinpoint one, so he names them all. Long tells us, “’She’ is a song I wrote for a woman who I was really just head over heels for. Although we ultimately didn’t end up together I continue to celebrate the connection we had and what she meant to me, through this song.”
Long possesses a mature and emotive voice that contains the range to move from baritone up to falsetto, and the musical arrangement that leans heavily on jazz infused piano serves as the perfect foundation for him to showcase his vocal skills. Check out “She” here.
