First Listen: El DeBarge helps Tyrese on a song of love lost

(September 2, 2024) It has been more than a quarter century since a 20 year old Tyrese Darnell Gibson, aka Tyrese, first burst on the scene with the hit single “Sweet Lady,” and he has never looked back. In the years since, Tyrese has established himself as a successful singer, model, brand ambassador, and actor.

Now in 2024, Tyrese back with an ambitious new seventeen song album that features a bevy of great guest vocalists and even production work from the iconic David Foster.

One of the most impactful cuts on the new album is a dramatic ballad about lost love and regret:

Made my bet
Now I must live with the consequence of loving you wrong
It must be said
I didn’t think it would end like this
Come home one night to find you’re gone

“Runaway” features the harmonizing of legendary R&B singer El DeBarge, and a lush, foreboding sound that perfectly captures the melancholy that the lyrics express.

This is a powerful performance that whisks listeners to a place of pathos that is both relatable and effective. Check it out below.
