(September 11, 2025) Ty Causey’s sound is identifiable and distinct. Listeners can focus on the fusion of R&B and jazz or Causey’s smooth as velvet baritone. I believe that a major component of Causey’s staying power among fans of classic R&B comes from the fact that Causey is a romantic. He’s the gentleman balladeer and even when he’s telling a lady that the time has come for them to part, he delivers the news with care and compassion.
Causey is more comfortable in the wooing lane, and that comes through clearly on his latest single, “The Cost of Loving You.” Lyrically, the song has a Motown level use of simile as Causey compares the love for his lady to the depth of a river, and the brightness of her smile to the stars in the sky. Her presence brings joy, while her absence brings a sense of emptiness, and Causey wants her to know that he’s willing to pay whatever it takes to keep her in his life.
The track has a groove set for steppers with jazz inflections from the alto saxophone. Check out Ty Causey’s latest, “The Cost of Loving You” here.
