First Listen: Tracy Hamlin wants to “Build Something With You”

(October 20, 2025) In August of this year, we shared with you the new single by international soul singer, Tracy Hamlin – “Nothing Can Stop Me Now,” a chart-topping motivational anthem that Tracy delivered from the heart as a breast cancer survivor. The song is the title of Tracy’s new memoir and the title track of her forthcoming seventh album.

The next single from her album is a smooth jazz-meets-R&B love song called “Build Something with You.” It’s a feel-good tune “about love, connection and building something that lasts,” as Tracy describes.

This track was written by Rodney Shelton, who crafted Keith Washington’s classic “Kissing You.”  Lifting Rodney’s words off the page, Tracy sings ever so authentically about finding that special someone and explains what her intentions are for their relationship:

Don’t wanna fall in love no more
Don’t wanna treat it like before
I wanna build a love
and build something with you

I personally was immediately hooked by the midtempo groove, but the lyrics captured my ear even more so because of the contrast between falling in love and building a love. Though most rejoice at the thought of falling in love, understandably so, falling into something can sound a bit haphazard and uncertain, whereas building something conveys the thought of working toward a common goal and establishing a strong foundation.

Fittingly, then, Tracy vocalizes that she doesn’t want to fall in love but wants to go a step further and build a love with her special person. That’s solid. Check out “Build Something With You” here.
