(May 17, 2020) Atlanta-born Songstress Toni Redd is an artist who is respected by fans and peers alike. She has performed with artists ranging from The Temptations and The Stylistics, to The Rippingtons and The Yellowjackets, while carving out a solo career spanning multiple decades. With her latest single, a cover of the late Phyllis Hyman’s “Lost In Confusion,” Toni shows her vocal dexterity and ability.
Toni’s version of the top 10 R&B hit from 1991 written by Kenny Gamble and Phyllis Hyman is described as a tribute to the soul legend. It stays fairly similar to the original version in arrangement and build, as it’s a ballad wrapped in both soul and jazz undertones. While this version leans heavily towards the original, Toni delivers a emotionally-charged performance that is still her own, and is the latest example of why she has become such a valuable voice in R&B. Added to this arrangement is a dynamic guitar solo which helps effectively compliment the passion of the lyrics. Long-time fans of both Redd and Hyman will both definitely approve of this cover.
